Saturday’s second and third round winning side of the bracket results are listed below:
2nd round:
West Plains advanced to the championship game by beating Ava 7-0.
Morrisville advanced to the championship game by getting the 1-0 win over the Lady Jays. In that game, Morrisville scored the only run of the game in the first inning. Leadoff batter Kasey Painter doubled and her cousin Kayla Painter, batting in the number 2 spot, singled to get the RBI. After that, the Marshfield defense never allowed another run until the 75 minute time limit expired and Morrisville got the win. In tournament play there is a 75 minute time limit. You do not get to play the full 7 innings, and the run the Jays allowed in the first killed them. The Jays had runners in scoring position twice, but failed to get the run across to tie the game. In the 3rd, Latasha Baderdeen was stranded at 2nd. Hannah Keeth, first up in the 5th, reached base by getting hit with a pitch . Her courtesy runner, Emily Crowley advanced around to 3rd base, and the winning run was Baderdeen on second. The lady Jays failed to get the big hit when we needed it and the Jays were dropped into the third place contest.
The third place game saw Marshfield facing Ava and their starting pitcher Kendra Dering. Ava ended the lady Jays season last year in which, except for one walk, Dering threw a near perfect game. The Bears had been beaten in the first round by West Plains.
Lead off batter, Latasha Baderdeen singled, was hit by a pitch, and smashed an inside the park homerun for the lady Jays. Second baseman Mackenzie Sanders reached base twice and had two RBI’s. First baseman Haley Hines drew a walk and singled. Ashton Worth walked and hit a stand-up double. Morgan Blackstock walked twice, reached on an error, and scored 2 runs for the lady Jays.
The lady Jays allowed 5 hits, but no runs to shutout Ava 8-0. West Plains took down Morrisville 2-1 in the championship game to take the first place trophy for the second year in a row.
