Lady Jays fight off determined Rogersville (Rebroadcast Available)

Marshfield fought off a determined Lady Wildcats basketball team Monday night at Logan-Rogersville High School, earning a 60-47 Central Ozark Conference victory in a game that was in doubt until the finals moments.

The top ranked Class 4 Lady Jays improved to 22-0 overall and 6-0 in the league with the win. Rogersville is now 7-14 overall and 2-4 in the COC.

The Lady Wildcats crashed the boards, pulling down 7 offensive rebounds in the first period to overcome cold shooting. Marshfield led 14-11 after the first stanza after making 7-of-12 field goals.

Rogersville tied the score on two occasions in the second period, but Marshfield was able to extend the lead to 29-24 by intermission by making 5-of-9 field goals in the quarter. Rogersville led 27-14 in rebounds at halftime, but made only 11-of-37 field goals by the break.

Senior forwards Lacey Boshe and Sara Jane Plemmons combined for 12 points in the third period on 5-of-6 field goal shooting, helping Marshfield hold on to a 41-34 lead entering the final period.

Junior Callie Carroll kept Rogersville within striking distance by scoring 7 points in the third period.

But the Marshfield defense held the Lady Wildcats to just 2 fourth-quarter field goals to seal the deal.

Three Lady Jays wound up scoring in double figures.

Sara Jane Plemmons led the way with 16 points, making 7-of-11 field goals with a team-high 7 rebounds in the game. Plemmons also had 4 assists and a steal for Marshfield.

Lacey Boshe scored 15 points, making 5-of-6 field goals in the game with 5 rebounds and 2 assists for the Lady Jays.

Freshman guard Alley Bruton hit 5-of-6 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws, scoring 13 points for Marshfield, with 2 rebounds and 2 assists in the contest.

Callie Carroll was the leading scorer in the game with 19 points. Carroll also had 6 rebounds, 3 steals, an assist and a blocked shot.

Najee Donson, a 5-5 sophomore, added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists to the Rogersville attack.

Sijae Brown, a 5-10 freshman, was the game’s leading rebounder with 11 boards, scoring 4 points with 3 steals for the Lady Wildcats.

Junior Morgan Smith posted a game-high 5 assists while scoring 6 points for Marshfield with 4 rebounds and 3 steals for Marshfield.

Sophomore Ashley Boshe blocked 4 shots in the game, scoring 4 points with 4 rebounds and a steal for the Lady Jays.

Freshman Amanda Gourley hit a trey and had 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists for Marshfield.

Senior Jaysa Hartman also scored 3 points in the game for the Lady Jays with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal.

Anna Glenn, Kassie Hyde and Haley Diehl also contributed to the victory.

Freshman Paige Pennington scored 7 points with a rebound and a steal in the game for Rogersville.

Erin Meacham, a 5-4 freshman, pulled down 8 rebounds in the game while scoring 3 points with an assist for the Lady Wildcats.

Kaylee Jesson, a junior forward, finished with 4 points, 4 rebounds and a blocked shot in the contest for Rogersville.

Nicole Spaulding had 3 steals and an assist and Bailey Braden had 2 rebounds in the game for the Lady Wildcats.
