Tigers JV tops Marshfield

Republic’s junior varsity used 11 players to wear down the Blue Jays Tuesday night at Marshfield High School, posting a 63-40 Central Ozark Conference basketball victory.

The visitors used pressure defense to hold Marshfield to just 2 first period field goals. Republic led 16-5 after the first quarter.

Marshfield heated up in the second period, hitting 9-of-12 shots, getting 6 points from Jake VanDiggelen and 4 points from Matt Poole in the stanza.

But Republic broke the game open in the third period, extending the lead to 42-27 as Steven Shireman scored 8 points without missing a shot for the Tigers.

Josh Morrow led the winners with 12 points and 8 rebounds, hitting 6-of-9 field goals in the game.

Shireman finished with 10 points, 2 assists and a rebound for Republic.

Matt Poole led Marshfield with 13 points, making 5-of-6 field goals with 3 rebounds and 2 steals in the game.

Jake VanDiggelen added 9 points and pulled down 5 rebounds for the Blue Jays.

Dwayne McCroskey scored 5 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists for Marshfield.

Isaiah Cottengem was the leading rebounder for the Blue Jays with 6 boards, scoring 4 points with a steal and an assist.

Scott Ragsdale added 3 points with 3 rebounds and a steal for Marshfield.

Nathan Combs had a big night for Republic, scoring 8 pints with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in the contest.

Kevin Stander finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists for the Tigers.

Tyler King also scored 6 points for Republic with 2 rebounds and 2 steals in the game.

Dylan Fletcher added 5 points, 3 rebounds, a steal and an assist to the winning attack.

Ty Diehl scored 4 points, Jordan Brown scored a point with a rebound, and Kelsey Hyde scored a point with a rebound for Marshfield.

Tyler McHenry, Austin Brasher and Kyle Allen each scored 4 points and Kyle Knierim and Josh Fanning each scored 2 points for the Tigers.
