Freshman Jays win in double OT

Marshfield’s freshman Blue Jays prevailed in double overtime, defeating visiting Republic High School 56-53 on Monday night in Central Ozark Conference basketball action.

Jake VanDiggelen scored the only field goal of the second overtime, giving Marshfield a 53-51 lead. VanDiggelen and Garrett Dollins each hit pressure free throws for the winners. Van Diggelen was 6-for-6 at the line during crunch time.

Marshfield led throughout most of the contest, but Republic got a 3-point shot from Nick Debbin with just 6 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the score at 49-49.

In the first overtime, Marshfield’s Evan Theobald tied the score in the final moment at 51-51.

Clayton Cottle was the leading scorer in the game for Marshfield, scoring 12 points with 2 rebounds, a steal and an assist.

Van Diggelen scored 10 points with 5 rebounds in the game for the Blue Jays.

Beau Griffith added 6 points, a game-high 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals to the winning attack.

Ben Poole scored 9 points in the game for the Jays with 2 rebounds and an assist.

Garrett Dollins scored 8 points and pulled down 3 rebounds for Marshfield.

Evan Theobald posted a game-high 7 assists and 5 steals while scoring 6 points and pulling down 4 rebounds for the Blue Jays.

Ty Diehl scored 5 points with a rebound and an assist for Marshfield.

Nick Debbin led Republic with 16 points and 2 steals.

Ryan Mathis added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals to the Tigers effort.

Jonathan Combs scored 9 points for Republic with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Conner Trueblood added 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals to the visitors attack.

Brody Thompson finished with 4 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals in the game for the Tigers.

Nathan Griffin added 2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists for Republic.

Josh Marler and Denver West each finished with a point and 3 rebounds for the Tigers.
