The Lady Jays advance to the Championship game in the Class 3 District 10 Tournament being held today in Ava. You have time to get here as the 1st place game will start around 2.
In the first game, Ava jumped up 1-0 in the 1st inning. The Lady Jays didn’t tie it up until the 3rd, when Blackstock singled to lead things off. Sanders sacrificed to get Blackstock to 2nd. Blackstock then moved to 3rd on a wild pitch. Ashton Worth then drove in the run to tie it up with a fielder’s choice.
Worth struck out 11 and her defense put down 18 Lady Bears in a row after giving up the run in the 1st.
In the bottom of the 6th everyone thought that the Lady Jays took the lead 2-1, but here is what happened. Haley Hines doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Bigley then singled and the Lady Jays had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Gourley struck out. Hargus then drove one out into deep right center that was caught. Hines tagged up and scored from 3rd. Bigley was trying to make it to third and there was a play….it was close, but no call. Then Ava threw the ball to second base to appeal that Bigley did not tag up. Bigley was called out for the 3rd out of the inning. Then the appeal came from Ava head coach Rex Sawyer. The 3 officials, all veterans, huddled with Sawyer then Murphy. A 10 minute delay was announced to go to the rule book. Since Bigley was put out by a force out, the run did not count. Ava then seemed to have all the momentum.
Ashton Worth responded though. Worth struck out the first 2 batters and Hines put out the 3rd unassisted. In the 8th,leadoff batter Morgan Emerich was hit by a pitc. The defense then put down the nexrt 3 in a row. In the bottom of the 8th, Navarro singled to lead off the inning. Then Hines drives one off the right-centerfield fence for a game winning triple to drive in Navarro for the win…. LADY JAYS WIN IN EXTRA INNINGS 2-1.
Championship game to follow today at 2. We will play the winner of the Rogersville – Salem game being played right now.
