Lady Jays Softball hands Ozark first loss!

Rebroadcast available

The Lady Jays softball team picked up a BIG win tonight by beating Ozark 2-1.

Ashton Worth had to work for it though as the Lady Jays defense was tested in every inning but the first.    In the first, Ozark went down 1,2,3.  Ashton Worth was able to single in the bottom of the first, but that was the only hit.  The score was tied at 0 after one.

In the second Ozark’s starting pitcher, Abbie Clanton singled to start the inning.  Brooke Kroger put down the SAC bunt to advance pinch runner Vigneaux to second.  Then the Jays turned a strike ’em out-throw ’em out double play to end the top half of the second.  Worth struck out Carlie Allison and Amanda Gourley threw out the runner trying to steal third to Alexis Navarro who made the tag.

Hannah Bigley singled to start off the bottom of the second, but was thrown out at second when Gourley hit into the fielder’s choice.  Murgel and Campbell were outs 2 and 3 and we went to the third with no score.

In the top of the third, Ozark broke though. Emily Lutton was hit by a pitch and then Jenisch reached on an error.  Jackie Wacha then singled to right and that scored Lutton making the score 1-0 Ozark.  In the bottom of the third, Crowley answered.  Emily Crowley walked to lead off the inning then stole second.  She took third and stole home on passed balls to tie the game at 1.

From there the Marshfield defense did it the hard way.  Ozark had the bases loaded in the fourth, a runner on second in the fifth with 1 out, runners at first and second in the sixth, and bases loaded in the seventh–and the defense held.  All in all, Ozark stranded 12 base runners.

In the bottom of the sixth with 2 outs, Ashton Worth got it done with her bat.  Worth singled for her second hit of the game.  Lindee Clair come in as a courtesy runner for the pitcher.  Clair took second on a passed ball.  Ozark head coach Yancy Little then called time out to talk with his team.  With Alexis Navarro at the plate it appeared that the Tigers were going to intentally walk Navarro with first base open.  On the second pitch Alexis chased one outside and drove it into right center field scoring Clair from second and putting the Jays up 2-1.

Ozark loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but the Jays defense didn’t allow another run.  The final: MHS LADY JAYS 2  Ozark Lady Tigers 1.

Good win for the Lady Jays!
