The Marshfield Blue Jays soccer team heads into district play today, at Hillcrest, as the #3 Seed even though we have the best record in the District. The 4 team district is seeded like this:
#1 Bolivar (10-10)
#2 Willard (8-13)
#3 Marshfield (13-9-1)
#4 Hillcrest (1-21)
Bolivar gets the top seed largly due to a 1-0 victory over our Jays on September 29th. Two days later the Liberators beat Willard by the same score 1-0.
Marshfield and Willard have not faced each other this year but have at least 5 common opponents.
Willard beat Republic twice 2-1 and 1-0, we lost to Republic 3-1.
Willard beat Greenwood 2-1, we lost to Greenwood 2-1.
Willard beat Monett 3-1, we lost to Monett 3-1
We both beat Rogersville with the same score of 2-1,
We both beat Hillcrest with the same score 10-0.
This explains why Willard is the #2 Seed. In this case the seed doesn’t matter as 2 and 3 face each other in the first round anyway.
Today #1 seed Bolivar will play #4 seed Hillcrest at 4:30.
(Hillcrest’s only win of the season was on August 27th vs Rogersville 1-0.)
Marshfield and Willard play at 6:30.
As you can see this should be a very competitive District with just a single goal seperation between the top 3 teams.
GOOD LUCK JAYS- BRING HOME THE CHAMPIOJNSHIP!
