Big third quarter sparks Rogersville (Rebroadcast Available)

The Wildcats heated up in the third period, hitting 9-of-11 field goals and all 6 free throws they tried to break open a Central Ozark Conference basketball contest with Marshfield, topping the Blue Jays 58-44 Tuesday night at Rogersville High School.

Logan Lea scored 7 points and Denny Revel 6 points in the quarter without missing a shot for the winners.

Rogersville improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the COC. Marshfield fell to 8-5 and 0-2 with a second consecutive road loss.

Revell finished with a game-high 20 points, hitting 5-of-10 field goals and 9-of-11 free throws in the contest, with 6 rebounds for the winners.

Lea, a 6-4 senior, was a force in the middle, scoring 9 points with 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the game for Rogersville.

Revell scored the first 7 points of the game, but Marshfield went on a 13-0 run to take the lead, getting 7 points from senior Justin Drane. The Blue Jays led 13-12 after one period. The teams remained within a possession of the lead throughout the second period, which ended with Rogersville up 27-25.

The Wildcats hit their 8 shots in the third period, and held Marshfield to just 3-of-11 shooting from the field in the stanza, which ended with Rogersville leading 51-32.

Marshfield fought back in the final period, but continued to struggle with shooting numbers, making just 3-of-12 field goals in the final quarter.

Senior forward Justin Jones led the Blue Jays attack with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals in the game.

Senior forward Nathan VanDiggelen was the leading rebounder in the game, scoring 7 points with 12 rebounds and an assist for Marshfield.

Drane, a senior forward, added 9 points, 2 steals and a rebound to the Blue Jays attack.

Junior Cameron Keenan finished with 6 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal for Marshfield.

Senior guard Kelby Phelps handed out a game-high 6 assists, scoring 5 points with 7 rebounds and a steal for the Blue Jays.

Senior Jordan Jones scored 4 points for Marshfield, junior Charlie Williams blocked 2 shots, senior Derek Welch pulled down a rebound and senior Jason Young added 2 assists, a steal and a rebound to the Blue Jays attack.

Ethan Slaughter finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, a steal and an assist for Rogersville.

Ethan Garrett, a 5-6 sophomore, also scored 8 points, without missing a shot in the game, with 2 assists and rebound for the Wildcats.

Drew Dunton, a 6-5 junior, finished with 5 points and 7 rebounders for the winners.

Brett Robb scored 6 points with 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists in the game for Rogersville.

Chad Yates scored 2 points, blocked 2 shots and pulled down a rebound for the Wildcats.

Wes Bird added 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a point to the winning attack.

Both teams will play at home Friday night in COC action, with Rogersville hosting Reeds Spring and Marshfield facing Ozark.
