Branson High School defeated visiting Marshfield 8-2 in Central Ozark Conference baseball on Wednesday, April 2.
Marshfield is now 3-2 overall. It was the league opener for both teams.
Branson scored 5 runs in the first inning. The Blue Jays cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the second, but Branson added 3 runs in the third. Branson outhit Marshfield 7-6, and the Pirates defense did not commit an error.
Mike Compton was the winning pitcher for the Pirates, working 5 innings. Cody Guentz finished up on the mound for Branson.
Shaun Crawford went the distance for Marshfield, and was the victim of 3 errors in the game.
Garrett Cardwell had the only extra base hit of the game for Marshfield, a double. Cameron Keenan, Chris Arnold, Justin Fraker, Tim Ryan and Shaun Crawford each singled for the Blue Jays.
Levi Casey smacked a double for Branson and Alex Wescott had 2 hits for the Pirates.
The game Marshfield was scheduled to play against Buffalo on Thursday, April 3 was rained out. Marshfield has a makeup game scheduled at Waynesville Friday, April 4. The Buffalo game has been reset for Saturday.
Marshfield will host Ozark at Ralph Eyler Field on Monday April 7. Ozark was a 9-0 winner over Buffalo in the COC opener for those teams on Wednesday.
