Freshman Jays top Buffalo 12-1 (Rebroadcast Available)

The freshman Blue Jays defeated visiting Buffalo High School 12-1 in Central Ozark Conference baseball action at Ralph Eyler Field on Saturday, April 12.

Garrett Dollins tossed a 1-hitter, striking out 5 and allowing no walks to pick up the pitching decision.

Marshfield improved to 5-4 on the season with the win, and will play next Thursday  against Nixa, a double header at home starting at 4:30 p.m.

Buffalo scored first with the help of a pair of Marshfield errors. Tyler Wise reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a bunt by Blake Boatright.

Dollins struck out the next 5 batters he faced, and gave up only one hit, to Tyler Sullivan.

Marshfield scored twice in the last of the first to take the lead for good. Mike Brewer was hit by a pitch, stole a base, and scored on a single by Buck Cardwell. Cardwell would later scored on a wil pitch. Jake VanDiggelen also had hit in the first.

In the Marshfield second, Joel Cheeney reached on an error and Ryan Doolittle walked. The two worked a double steal, with Cheeney scoring. Jace Thomas walked and Payton Bransfield was hit by a pitch. Buck Cardwell then delivered a 2-run double to put Marshfield up 5-1.

In the third, Ty Diehl walked and stole second. Joel Cheeney singled, driving in Diehl. Ryan Doolittle walked and Jace Thomas walked to load the bases. Payton Bransfield drove in a run, as did Mike Brewer, putting the Jays up 8-1.

In the fourth, Garrett Dollins was hit by a pitch and Jake VanDiggelen walked. Joel Cheeney also walked and Garrett Dollins scored on a wild pitch.

Aaron Birdsong drove in a run with a grounder and Trent Burks walked. Payton Bransfield walked, then Mike Brewer drove in the final two runs with a single.
