Jan. 15 Conference in Webster County to Address Livestock, Forage and Energy
Issues
The public is invited to attend the 85th Annual Webster County Soils and Crops
Conference, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at the
First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, 1001 S. White Oak St., (south of the
cemetery), in Marshfield, Mo.
The educational nature of the conference is changed each year to reflect current
issues of interest and concern in Webster County and southwest Missouri
according to Bob Schultheis, natural resource engineering specialist based in
Marshfield.
"The planning committee has put together an informative program that will appeal
to farmers and ranchers, rural landowners, and anyone else interested in
improving their cattle herds, controlling weeds and extending forage supplies,
saving on energy costs, and marketing home-grown products," said Schultheis.
Topics to be discussed at this year’s conference include Country of Origin
Labeling, Noxious Weeds Update, Saving Money with Energy Alternatives, Good Soil
Sampling and Using the Results, Stretching Limited Forage Dollars, and Forage
Sampling for Best Results. The USDA agencies, Farmers’ Market, and 4-H Program
will also give reports on services and financial and educational opportunities
available in Webster County.
There is no charge for the conference or lunch, due to generous sponsors, but
participants are asked to call (417) 859-2044 by Monday, Jan. 12, to make their
meal reservation so enough food can be prepared. Participants are also invited
to bring a non-perishable food item or cash contribution to be donated to the
Webster County Food Pantry.

because of a disability, contact the Webster County Extension Center in
