Tim Ryan held visiting Willard High School to just one run, pitching a complete game for the Blue Jays as Marshfield earned a 2-1 Central Ozark Conference baseball victory on Tuesday, April 22, at Ralph Eyler Field.

Tim Ryan, a sophomore right hander, struck out 5 and walked no one, scattering 6 hits over 7 innings of work.

Marshfield improved to 7-7 on the season with the win.  The Blue Jays are now 3-4 in the league with a road game at Bolivar next on Thursday, April 24.  The final COC contest of the season will be against Rogersville on April 29.

"Those games will be important when it comes to district seeding," Marshfield coach James McAnarney said.  "We’ll have our seeding meeting the day after the Rogersville game."

The Blue Jays will be hosting the district tournament this season.

Marshfield struck first with a run in the fourth inning. Garrett Cardwell led off the frame with a single and Justin Fraker laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nathan VanDiggelen delivered an RBI double to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Willard evened the score with consecutive singles by Richard Lewis and Ryne Cook, and a sacrifice fly by Justin Cobb.

But those were the last hits Tim Ryan would allow.

Marshfield pushed the game winner across in the last of the seventh.  Chris Arnold singled and Zach Reed pinch ran.  Zach Reed stole second base while Nathan VanDiggelen was working a walk.  Zach Reed came all the way around to score when a pick off throw was mishandled, giving the Blue Jays the win.

Garrett Cardwell finished with 2 hits in the game for Marshfield.  Zach Hildebrand, Chris Arnold and Nathan VanDiggelen also had a hit for the Blue Jays.  Lewis and Cook each had 2 hits in the game for Willard.

Don’t forget that the Blue Jays will be playing at Hammons Field on April 30, playing Lebanon after the Springfield Cardinals game that day.  Tickets are available for $4 at Marshfield High School.
