The Marshfield Blue Jays will play for 5th Place tonight in the Blue Division of the 71st Annual Blue and Gold Tournament.

Unseeded Marshfield beat #8 Seed Crane in the first round on Monday in a close one 58-55.

Tuesday the Jays played Republic great for 1 quarter.   The score after 1 was 10-10.  After that the #1 Seed Tigers defense took over and showed everyone why they were worthy of the number 1 seed.  Republic allowed Marshfield to only 3 points in the second quarter, 2 points in the 3rd, and 2 points in the fourth, holding the Jays to a total of 17 points.  They put in 53.

Yesterday Marshfield led by as many as 11 points a couple times but #5 Seed Clever fought back to take a 36-30 lead after 3 quarters of play.  To start the 4th quarter Clever had 3 starters with 4 fouls and the possession.  To protect his players in foul trouble Clevers coach decided to burn some clock.  The first possession of the 4th quarter they ran almost 3 minutes off the clock before scoring and taking an 8 point lead with just over 5 minutes left.

With 2:15 left in game Clever hit the last shot of the day taking a 45-40 lead.  From there Marshfield held the other Bluejay team scoreless.  2 Free throws from Marshfield Sophomore Tristen Letterman, made it a one possession game.  A few seconds later Marshfields Sr Britt Hill hit a basket in the paint and was fouled.  45-44.  Time out called – free throw missed.  14.1 seconds left Clever had a 1 point lead and the ball.  After another missed free throw and a Marshfield  rebound the stage was set for the upset.  Sophomore Austin Porter hit the winning shot with just over 1 second left and the Marshfield team advanced.

Final Score 46-45.

Clever missed 4 free throws and two shots from the field in the final 2 minutes and 15 seconds of the game.  Marshfield closed out the game on a 6-0 run for the victory.

7th Seed Mansfield earned thier way into the 5th place game by beating Spokane 73-46, losing to #2 Seed Springfield Glendale 72-64, and by beating #6 Seed Springfield Catholic 60-57.
