JV Lady Jays win at Willard

The Marshfield Lady Jays JV ended the 2007-08 season on a high note, earning a 53-46 Central Ozark Conference basketball victory at Willard High School on Valentine’s Day.

The Lady Jays Junior Varsity finished with with a sparkling 18-4 season record.

Willard jumped on top 11-2 after one period, holding Marshfield to a single field goal in 11 attempts in the opening stanza.

The Lady Jays rallied behind the play of Justina Burney. Burney scored 11 points in the second period, and her basket with 3:40 to go in the stanza put Marshfield on top for the first time at 15-14. Hannah Keeth hit a trey and scored 5 points in the second period for Marshfield. Chelsea Ahrens also scored 5 points in the second quarter as the Lady Jays took a 25-18 lead by intermission in a wild turnaround, scoring 23 points in the second period after scoring just 2 in the first period.

Willard fought back in the third period, hitting 5-of-9 field goals and cutting the Marshfield lead to 35-29 entering the final stanza.

Sarah Neptune picked up a steal, scored, and dished out a pair of assists to spark a fourth period run which gave Marshfield a 41-31 lead.

Willard’s Chelsea Greenhaw scored 9 points in the final period, and helped the host cut the Marshfield lead to two possessions in the final 1:51.

But Jessie Bruton and Kayla Baldwin sealed the deal with big points down the stretch for Marshfield.

Jessie Bruton led Marshfield with 14 points, scoring 9 of those in the final period, with 2 steals and 2 rebounds in the game.

Justina Burney finished with 11 points, 3 steals and an assist for the winners.

Hannah Keeth hit a pair of treys, scoring 8 points for the Lady Jays with a rebound, a steal and an assist in the contest.

Kayla Baldwin scored 6 points for Marshfield with 2 rebounds a steal and an assist in the game.

Chelsea Ahrens was the leading rebounder for Marshfield with 8 boards. She scored 7 points with 5 steals and 2 assists in the game.

Sarah Neptune gave out a game-high 9 assists for the Lady Jays, scoring 4 points with 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Kaitlyn Murgel pulled down 7 rebounds in the game while scoring 3 points and picking up a steal for Marshfield.

Ashley Honeycutt had a rebound and Shelby Porter picked up a steal for the Lady Jays, while Jenna Diehl and Jessie Greer each had a rebound for Marshfield.

Chelsea Greenhaw led Willard with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Angel Wilcox added 13 points, 4 rebounds, a steal and an assist to the Lady Tigers effort.

Courtney Wallace finished with 4 points, 7 rebounds an steal and an assist in the game for Willard.
