In Class 4 District 10 action last night there were two fantastic ballgames. The first game featured the number 10 team in Class 4 A the West Plains Lady Zizzers ( the number 1 seed) vs the Logan Rogersville Lady Wildcats (seeded 4th). The first half was back and forth and remained that way until the very end. With 5:26 to go in the 3rd the score was Rogersville 33 West Plains 30. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the score had gottten tighter. Rogersville 39 West Plains 38! Upset in the making?
With 3:20 to go in the game Rogersville held to a 1 point lead 46-45. West Plains scored and took back the lead with 1:16 to go West Plains 47 Rog 46. West Plains scored again to go up 3, but Rogersville answered with a big 3 pointer to tie the game at 49-49 with 51.9 seconds to go. In the final minute, a West Plains guard dribble penetrated the lane and scored but was called for a charge, and the basket did not count! Rogersville then took the last shot of regulation, but it would not fall. West Plains rebounded as time expired.
In the overtime period it was all Wildcats. They outscored the Zizzers 6-2 to take the win and advance into Wednesday’s championship game. Final score: Rogersville 55 West Plains 51.
In the second game, #2 seed Marshfield raced out to a 17-4 1st quarter lead against #3 Seed Bolivar. Scoring was led by Anna Glenn who scored the first 6 points of the game. In the second period however, Anna picked up 2 quick fouls. With Glenn out, Chelsea Ahrens picked up 2 fouls as well. With our two starting post players on the bench with foul trouble, Bolivars 6 foot center Jessica Rumfelt went to work. The Bolivar guards fed Rumfelt the ball and she put it in the hole. Rumfelt scored 9 points in the second quarter. The Liberators outscored the Lady Jays 17-12 in the second making the halftime score 29-21 Lady Jays.
In the 3rd quarter, Anna picked up her third foul in the first minute of play and headed back to the bench. Bolivar continued to chip away at the lead outscoring the Jays 14 to 10 in the 3rd. After three quarters of play the score was 39-35 Marshfield.
In the fourth quarter Anna was back with a vengeance. Glenn started the the last period like she started the first adding a quick 9 points, while Amanda Gourley added 8 in the final stanza. The Lady Jays outscored Bolivar 22-10 to take the victory 61-45.
