The Lady Jays outlasted a good Strafford ballclub coached by SBU and Marshfield alum Miss Cheratin Dunn. The game was scoreles until the bottom of the fourth when Strafford took the lead. AriAnne Gott drew a leadoff walk. She was able to score two batters later when Marshfield’s outfielder lost the ball in the sun. That play made the score 1-0 Strafford.
Strafford’s lead didn’t last long. In the top of the 5th, the Lady Jays answered by sending all 9 players to the plate. The first 5 Jays reached base safely. Anna Glenn and Hannah Keeth led off with back to back singles, Tessa Jones reached on an error, loading the bases. Mackensie Sanders singled driving in 1 to tie the game. Latasha Baderdeen walked and the score was 2-1 Marshfield. Ashton Worth hit the ball, but was called out with the infield fly rule for the 1st out of the inning. Karissa Lorenz was retired 2nd to 1st but drove in another run making it 3-1. Kelsey Kleeman then singled driving in 2 more and the Jays were up 5-1.
The Jays added another run in the 7th when the leadoff batter, Lorenz singled, Kleeman sacrificed, and Glenn singled to drive in the run. That’s how it ended, with the score Marshfield 6 and Strafford 1.
Another great pitching performance from the Marshfield freshman Ashton Worth as she went the distance striking out 10, allowing only 2 hits while walking 2 and hit one batter.
The Jays go to Buffalo tonight to face the Bison.
We are proud to say this game was broadcast LIVE all over the world from Strafford MO.
