In a game that was originally scheduled as the season opener, the Hartville Lady Eagles traveled to Marshfield to take on your Lady Jays. Hartville started the game with back to back singles. The lady Eagles got 3 hits and scored their only run of the game in the first inning.
From there, it was all Marshfield. The Lady Jays scored three runs in the bottom of the 1st, put up 8 runs in the second, and added 6 more in the third when the umpires called the game because of the "over 15 run lead after 3 innings rule".
Three Lady Jays lead the team with three RBI’s each. Morgan Smith hit a base clearing 3 run double in the second inning. Kelsey Kleeman hit a triple with the bases loaded also in the second. Freshman Amanda Gorley, getting her first varsity start at second base, ended the game with a triple. That hit bounced to the fence in left field scoring three runs that ended the game.
Kleeman also pitched for the Jays getting her first win of the season. In three innings, she faced 13 batters, gave up 4 hits, struck out 3, walked zero, and allowed only 1 run.
The ladies have no time to rest after this one, they play tomorrow (Friday) at 6:30 against Norwood in the Morrisville Tounament. Win or lose they will play at 10 am Saturday in the first of three games to be held that day to finish out the tourney.
Get out and enjoy the weekend of softball action. If you cant make it to Morrisville for the tourney, check in here. We will have the scores as they become available.
