Marshfield ( 14-6) went to Logan-Rogersville ( 12-4) for a big game as far as Districts are concerned.  District play will be next week in Rogersville with these two teams as well as Ava, Mountain Grove, Salem and Mountain View-Liberty.

Both Marshfield and Ava have beat Rogersville and Marshfield has beat Ava this year and seedings usually go by head to head records.  We are thinking Marshfield 1, Ava 2, and Rogersville 3, but the meeting will be tomorrow and we will let you know for sure.

In this one, it was one of both offensive and defensive domination.

Offensively for Marshfield, they got it going in the 1st with a leadoff single by Tessa Jones. Sanders sacrificed the runner over to second and Baderdeen singled to drive in the run. 1-0 Jays.

It stayed that way till the 3rd when Lorenz reached on an error, Jones walked, Sanders sacrificed the runners over to 2nd and 3rd with 2 down.  With first base open and Latasha Baderdeen at the plate, the Wildcats decided to intentionally walk Baderdeen, loading the bases for Ashton Worth.  Worth then made them pay.  She smashed a ball out into right-center field that rolled all the way to the fence clearing the bases, scoring 3, with a stand up double.  That made the score 4-0.  Kelsey Kleeman then made it back-to-back doubles as she pounded in another RBI making it 5-0.

In the 5th inning, the Lady Jays sent 15 batters to the plate, and they added 10 more runs making the final score 15-0, but……..that is just half the story………………..

Defensively, Ashton worth pitched a perfect game.

The only baserunner the Wildcats had all night was the first batter of the game.  Worth struck out Smith, but the ball got past Hannah Keeth allowing Smith to reach base safely on the 3rd strike.  After that, no other Wildcat batter went anywhere except back to the dugout.  Worth struck out 13 out of the 16 batters she faced.

Here is the breakdown:

1st inning:  Worth struck out 4—— yes 4

2nd:  The first batter was retired 6-3.  Worth struck out the next 2.

3rd:  Worth struck out the first two then the third batter fouled out to Kleeman.

4th:  Worth struck out the first two, then the third batter was retired 5-3.

5th:  Worth struck out the side.       PERFECT GAME!!

Take the time to listen to this game.  The dumb announcer (me) didn’t even realize the perfect game until I got home to write the story!  In the postgame interview with coach Murphy you have to listen to (or fast forward through) 1 Don Henley song and 1/2 of a Tom Petty.  Sorry.

Get out and cheer on this team!!  Next game Thursday at Nixa.
