Lady Jays hold off Blue Eye (Rebroadcast Available)

The Lady Jays earned a hard-fought 61-49 nonconference basketball victory over Blue Eye at Marshfield High School Tuesday night, improving to 8-0 on the season.

Marshfield led throughout the contest, but Blue Eye pulled within two possessions of the lead in the final moments before the Lady Jays went on a game ending run to account for the double digit lead.

Senior Lacey Boshe posted a statistical line an NBA player would envy, leading all scorers with 20 points, pulling down 11 rebounds with 4 assists, 3 blocked shots and 2 steals. Lacey Boshe made 7-of-13 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws in the game.

Lacey Boshe scored 6 points to help Marshfield grab a 14-10 lead after one period.

Senior Sara Jane Plemmons scored 3 points in the first period, but more importantly, drew 3 quick fouls on the Blue Eye front line players. Plemmons finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a blocked shot in the game. She wound up drawing 8 fouls on the Blue Eye post players.

Freshman Alley Bruton scored 9 points for Marshfield in the contest, with 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Alley Bruton also made 5-of-6 free throws in the final period to help Marshfield hold off a strong Blue Eye rally.

Ashley Boshe scored 6 points for the Lady Jays in the second period, helping Marshfield grab a 35-23 halftime lead. She also handed out an assist in the game.

Jaysa Hartman handed out 4 assists with 2 rebounds in the game, scoring 2 points for Marshfield.

Morgan Smith finished with 4 points for the Lady Jays, hitting both shots she attempted, blocking 2 shots and grabbing 2 rebounds with a steal.

Amanda Gourley hit a trey for the Lady Jays and picked up a steal in the game.

Anna Glenn also hit a 3-point shot for Marshfield with a steal in the contest.

Kassie Hyde added a rebound and an assist to the Lady Jays attack.

In the second half, Jessica Fransen and Vanessa Bilyeau each scored 8 points for Blue Eye as the Bulldogs fought back. Blue Eye trailed 44-35 after three periods, and then cut the Marshfield lead to just 6 points on two occasions in the final quarter.

Fransen, a 6-0 senior, led the balanced Bulldogs attack with 14 points, 7 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot. Blue Eye started a pair of 6-0 posts and a 5-10 forward.

Natosha Phillips finished with 13 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal for Blue Eye.

Bilyeu added 12 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals to the visitor’s effort.

“Blue Eye has a nice team,” Marshfield coach Gary Murphy said. “They’ve had experience in this gym playing in the state sectional game, and coach (Ken) Elfrink does a good job with them. They’re going to win a lot of ballgames this year.”
