The 2009 season got underway tonight with the Lady Jays hosting the Hartville Lady Eagles.  Mackensie Sanders began the game perfect, striking out the first two batters with six straight pitches.  Sanders started the game with 14 strikes in a row, sitting down the first 6 Lady Eagles in order.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Marshfield’s leadoff batter sophomore Alexis Navarro singled and then stole second.  The next batter, junior Morgan Blackstock, doubled driving in the run.  Marshfield led 1-0.

The Jays added 4 more runs in the 4th.  Elizabeth Campbell started the rally by beating out an errant throw.  Back to back singles by Emily Crowley and Sanders made the score 2-0.  Amanda Gourley drew a walk to load the bases.  Erin Hargus then doubled driving in 2 rbi’s and another run scored when the Eagles tried to make a play on Gourley at third.  The ball got away from the 3rd baseman and Gourley made the score 5-0.   The Jays added 5 more in the 5th and won the game 10-0.  In high school ball, the game is called with a 10 run lead after 5 innings.

The next game is tonight at 5 from Branson.  You can listen live right here at MarshfieldWebTV.com.
