Marshfield did something tonight that hadn’t been done since 1998, when these seniors were in preschool. The Lady Jays went to the Morrisville Tournament and brought home the first place trophy. Marshfield finished second in 2009 and 2008, and third in 2007 and 2006. Tonight the Lady Jays played West Plains in the Championship for the third year in a row. The game was scoreless until the sixth. With 2 outs in the top of the sixth, the never say die Lady Jays started to rally. Murgel singled, Worth was intentionally walked. Hannah Bigley then singled to score Murgel and the Jays led 1-0. Then West Plains intentionally walked Alexis Navarro to load the bases. Next up Marshfield freshman Kiana Baderdeen tripled to the fence to clear the bases, driving in 3 more runs and the Jays led 4-0. Lindee Clair then singled to score Baderdeen and the Jays were up 5 – zip.
Ashton Worth pitched her fifth shutout in a row to open the season. She struck out 13, walked 4, and only one Lady Zizzer made it as far as second base where she was stranded in the third inning. Click on the pics below to enlarge.
CONGRATULATIONS LADY JAYS ON YOUR FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE SEASON!
