The Lady Jays opened the ’07-’08 season with a victory on the road against conference foe Rogersville. After 2 scoreless innings, the Jays busted onto the scoreboard with 5 runs in the 3rd. Latasha Baderdeen delivered most of the damage with a grand slam homerun over the left field fence. The Lady Jays picked up another run in the 5th when Hannah Keeth stole second base and Tessa Jones stole home, executing the double steal perfectly. Rogersville scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning, then Marshfield pounded out 6 more runs in the top of the 6th and went on to win with a score of 12 to 1.
Offense wasn’t the only story of the night. Marshfield catcher Hannah Keeth threw out 4 of 5 steal attempts. Jennifer McGinnis gets the win after sitting down the first 8 batters in a row. She faced 23 batters, gave up 6 hits, got 3 strikeouts, had one walk, and allowed only one run.
In the second game the JV jays won 9 to 3.
Up next for the Lady Jays, is a make-up game against Hartville at home this Thursday.
