Proudly Broadcasting Marshfield, Missouri to the World!

Marshfield takes Battle of Webster County 20-14.

The Bluejays went to Rogersville for a big, tough conference matchup and that’s just what they got.  Your Jays took the opening drive that started at the 6 yard line and ate up almost 10 full minutes of clock on a fantastic 92 yard drive that ended on a 4th and 2, when we failed to convert.  Rogersville then went three and out, but a penalty on the punt extended Rogersville’s possession for three more plays before they had to punt again.  The first quarter ended without a score.  The Bluejays got on the score board first with a field goal by Reese, making the score 3-0.  Rogersville answered with a touchdown to take the lead 7-3.  Marshfield then scored a TD of their own and retook the lead 10-7, but not for long.  Rogersville then drove down to score a touchdown and had the lead at halftime 14-10.

Rogersville has some offensive talent.  They showcased the sophomore QB Dill by running a 3 wide-out, shotgun formation for most of the night.  Not many high school teams play the run and gun, but Rogersville can put up points in a hurry.  Marshfield dominated the time of possession, but went to the locker room at halftime trailing by 4.  After a scoreless first quarter, both teams combined to put up 24 points in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Marshfield defense shut out the Wildcats and the offense was able to manufacture a touchdown to take he lead 17-14, then added another Reese field goal to stretch the lead to 20-14.

The game was far from over.  With just over 3 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Rogersville intercepted the ball at the Bluejay 33 yard line.  The Wildcats had 3 timeouts and only 33 yards to travel to win the game.  Marshfield’s defense went back to work and held on 4th down when a pass from Dill bounced before it got to its reciever.  Marshfield was able to run out the clock with a first down and escape with the win.

In the post game interview with Coach Randolph, he admitted "strange things happen when we come over here….we are glad to get out of here with a win.  Rogersville is a very good football team."

Your Bluejays move to 3-1 on the season.  2-0 in COC play.  As the Wildcats fall to 1-3 and 0-2.

Next week, it’s the Central Bulldogs from downtown Springfield.  You can hear that game live, right here at MarshfieldWebTV.com.
