The Marshfield Blue Jays season come to an end Tuesday night as they were beaten by Springfield Catholic 2-1.
Here is how the scoring went.
In the second inning Stephen Tipton got a lead off double, a great play in the outfield by Jordon Jones stole away a sure triple. The next batter Aaron Tribby singled into center field but a fantastic throw by Keenan to the plate held Tipton at 3rd, and Tribby took second on that throw to the plate. With 2 on and noone out Drane struck out the next 2 batters swinging. Eric Camejo hit a bloop single to score the only 2 Catholic runs.
The Jays got thier only run in the 3rd after Keenan doubled, he was sacrificed to 3rd by a Jordon Jones bunt. Keenan then stole home on a wild pitch making the score 2-1.
Drane pitched a great game allowing only 2 runs in the complete game effort. He struck out 4, walked 2 and allowed 7 scattered hits. 6 singles and a double. Coack Mac said ” Drane had a great effort. It was one of his best performances on the mound. The back to back strikeouts in the 2nd was as hard as I have ever seen him throw…then ‘the luck of the Irish’ got us with that bloop hit. I was proud of him, and I am proud of our team.”
In the pictures below the scoreboard reads Guest 1 Blue Jays 2. Don’t be confused.
Catholic was the home team even though we played the game at Eyler Field because they were the higher seed in the tournament. Catholic was seeded 2nd and your Jays were seeded 3rd.
Congratulations to the Jays on a good season.
