Marshfield travels to Reeds Spring and gets the Win!

Week 2 of the Missouri High School football season found your Jays in Reeds Spring to take on the Wolves.  Both teams were 1-0 and ready to play.

Marshfield won the toss and elected to defer to the 2nd half.

Reeds Spring took the opening possession 65 yards in 9 plays behind a very strong running game, the drive was capped off with a 6 yard TD run from Junior running back Keagon Fish.  The two-point conversion failed and the Wolves were up 6-0 3:47 seconds into the game.

The second scoring drive of the contest was also by Reeds Spring.  After getting set up with a short field at the Jays 34, the Wolves only needed 7 plays to push the lead to 12-0 behind Sr fullback Jace Bolin’s 2 yard TD run.  Again the 2 point conversion failed.

Marshfield’s offense got the ball with 4:49 left in the first half needing some points. Marshfield Jr quarterback Carson Adams hit 6’4 Sophomore TE Gage Harles for a 10 yard completion to get thing going for the Jays.  2 plays later that same combination got together for a 26 yard gain all the way down to the 1 yard line.  After a loss of 6 on 1st and goal Marshfield Sr RB Tyce Jones took in in from the 7 and the Jays were on the board. Jones followed up the TD with a 3 yard run for the 2 point conversion and the Jays went into halftime with momentum and the lead was cut to 12-8.

The play of the game came with the second half kickoff.  Tyce Jones went 80 yards for a Blue Jays touchdown and the Jays took the lead never to relinquish it 14-12.

The Marshfield defense was huge stopping the Wolves as they took possession inside the Red Zone twice!  With 10:04 left in the 4th quarter the Jays went on a drive that took over 5 minutes off the clock.  With 5:57 left and the Jays facing a 2nd and 6 Marshfield Sr RB Talon Funk went 51 yards to push the Jays lead to 20-12.  Sophomore Gage Harles kicked the extra point and it was a 2 possession game 21-12.

Reeds Spring wasn’t done.

The Wolves put together a 10 play 62 yard drive capped off with another Fish TD and a 2 point conversion by Sr Jace Bolin making the score 21-20 with 2:25 to go.

The Onside kick attempt failed and the Jays got the ball at the Wolves 29 after a penalty.

1 play later Tyce Jones covered 29 yards in 7 seconds and Marshfield led 27-20.

Once again it was the Marshfield D with a big play.  On 3rd and 15 Reeds Spring Jr QB Tyson Porter was intercepted by 6’ Sophomore Trenton Rosenthal with 1:17 to go.  Marshfield took over at the Wolves 24.  Reeds stopped the Jays and used their last two timeouts to salvage a last ditch effort with 20 seconds left.  Marshfield Senior linebacker Carter Pruitt sacked the QB to end the game!
