Marshfield (1-0) will host Monett (0-1) tonight at R.A. Barr Stadium at 7 pm!
Marshfield comes into tonight’s contest undefeated after whipping the McDonald County Mustangs 31-14.
Monett will come into town angry. Monett lost to the Number 3 team in the state Mt Vernon last week after leading most of the contest. Mt Vernon scored first but Monett scored at the end of the first half to go into halftime all tied up, then on the first possession of the second half Monett intercepted the ball for a pick 6 to take the lead 14-7. In the 4th quarter Mt Vernon tied the game and it stayed that way until less than 2 minutes to go in the game.
With 1:44 left Monett took the lead on a 56 yard Touchdown pass from QB Karter Brink to Junior Carvazos Monett up 21-14.
Mt Vernon takes possession at the 30 and marches down the field on an 11 play drive that ends with no time on the clock. QB Zac Jones connects to WR Raef Darter on a 10 yard TD pass on the last play of the game. With no time on the clock they go for 2 and get the win 22-21.
The reason I say they come into own angry is because of some fluke plays in the last minute.
On 3rd and 10 from the Mountaineers 30 Jones connects on a 33 yard pass play to Junior Carvazos. On that play there were 3 defenders in front of the receiver. everyone thought the ball was going to be intercepted but a defender deflected the ball up in the air and it ended up in the hands of Carvazos for a 33 yard reception.
Later on 3rd and 8 from the 23 a pass interference call at the 1 yard line give the ball 1st and goal from the 10.
The next play Monett appeared to intercept the ball for the victory at the 3 yard line. All of Monett’s players were jumping around and all of the Mountaineers were walking off the field dejected. Then an official comes running to the point of the interception waiving it off. The play is called incomplete.
