JV Jays hold off Indians

The Junior Varsity Blue Jays held off a determined Strafford squad for a 47-43 nonconference basketball victory on Monday night at Marshfield High School.

The Blue Jays went inside to Scott Ragsdale and Isaiah Cottengim for a combined 15 first period points in the first period of the game, taking a 20-13 lead over the visiting Indians.

Marshfield led 30-22 at intermission, and 40-34 after three periods, but Strafford fought back to within a possession of the lead in the final period. The Blue Jays got a key 3-point shot from Dwayne McCroskey and a clutch free throw from Kelsey Hyde and Matt Poole to hold off the Indians.

Cottengim finished with 15 points for Marshfield in the game, hitting 6-of-10 free throws and 3-of-4 free throws. Cottengim also had 5 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist in the game.

McCroskey added 13 points, including a pair of treys, to the Blue Jays attack, with 3 steals, 3 assists, a rebound and a blocked shot.

Ragsdale led Marshfield on the boards with 8 rebounds, scoring 9 points with a steal and an assist in the contest.

Poole finished with 5 points, 4 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds in the game for the Blue Jays.

Hyde added 3 points and 5 rebounds to the winning attack.

Charlie Williams finished with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and an assist for Marshfield.

Jordan Brown had a rebound and an assist for the Jays.

Jared Yarberry scored 11 points with 4 rebounds and 2 steals for Strafford.

Dylan Brown added 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist to the Indians attack.

Cody Baker led the visitors with 15 points, 7 rebounds and an assist in the game.

Jake Triplett scored 3 points, Tanner Davis finished with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists and Anthony Peters scored a point with 6 rebounds and an assist for the Indians.
