Rebroadcast of the game
Fantastic pitching, solid defense and just enough scoring makes for a good game as the Lady Jays beat a quality Branson team Tuesday night. Marshfield entered the contest with a record of 1-0 and it was the opening game of the season for the Lady Pirates.
Ashton Worth struck out the first two Lady Pirates and got Hannah Johnson to ground out 2nd to first to set the Lady Pirates down 1,2,3 in the first. In the bottom of the first, MHS Senior Morgan Blackstock drew a leadoff walk. Mackensie Sanders moved Blackstock over to second with the sacrifice. Then Worth hit a rocket to the second basemen who could not glove the ball. Blackstock scored from second making the score 1-0 Lady Jays.Â
That was the score through 5 innings as the only other run in the game come in the bottom of the 6th. With Alexis Navarro on at third and only one out, Coach Gary Murphy called for a suicide bunt with Amanda Gourley at the plate. Gourley bunted the ball to the pitcher who underhanded it to the catcher for the play at the plate….safe was the call and the jays took a 2-0 lead. That was it for the scoring in the game.
Ashton Worth pitched a no hitter, struck out 10Â while only allowing 2 walks.
The Lady Jays are now 2-0. 1-0 in the COC.
Next action for the Ladys will be Friday night as they travel to Morrisville to take on Sparta at 6:15 in the first round of the Morrisville Tournament. We will call Saturday’s tournament action starting at 10 a.m.
